We love door mats and scatter rugs. Mats by the door catch dirt and debris and limit what gets tracked into the cabin. Plus they say "welcome" to you and your guests.

I keep a mat on the floor by my kitchen sink - partly because I like the way it looks and partly because I like the way it feels on my feet when I stand at the sink.
