Outdoor benches - build them, buy them, enjoy them!

Outdoor benches are the perfect accent for your rustic landscape.

A garden bench can be a delightful bonus on your deck, the porch, patio, lawn, in the woods, under a tree, overlooking the water, in a gazebo, in the garden... just about anywhere.

It can provide a rest stop or just a place to enjoy the view - but most importantly a well positioned rustic bench can create a desire to "sit and stay awhile."

A garden bench can extend your seating capacity, but they aren't just for sitting on. They can be placed on the edge of a low deck to create definition for an outdoor room. An old bench can be re-purposed as a rustic coffee table or you can use it to display your colorful potted plants.

We have a rustic log bench by the children's swing. The children are taught from an early age that when they are waiting for their turn on the swing they must stay on the bench. This has helped avoid unfortunate collisions.

You can build your own simple benches. It makes a great DIY project.

Or you can buy a wide variety of garden benches. A note to the wise - many benches on the market are designed to be more decorative than functional so make sure it will be study enough for your intended use - before you buy.
